Linhai is one of the many prosperous new cities situated in the middle of the Zhejiang coastline. As early as the Southern Song Dynasty (1127-1279) it was visited by Japanese trading ships although the recent expansion has been the result of cheap electronics exports to the west. As the surrounding areas have become more and more wealthy, Linhai has become a popular tourist destination for Chinese families who come to sample the seedless mandarins and climb the Southern Great Wall.
