Centrally located Urubamba, the transportation hub of the valley, is also its busiest and best equipped to handle visitors. The town itself doesn’t have a whole lot more than a handsome main plaza and a few restaurants to offer, but the surrounding region is lovely, and several of the best hotels in the region are located within a radius of a few miles, either just south near Yucay, an attractive colonial village, or north on the road toward Ollantaytambo. The area as a whole makes a fine base from which to explore the Sacred Valley.
