The northernmost town in Palm Beach County, Jupiter, 15 miles north of West Palm Beach, has the distinction of sticking out into the Atlantic further than any other point in Florida. Its name doesn’t come from space, but from the Hobe Indian tribe, which once lived here. A mapmaker mistook the Spanish spelling of Hobe, Jobe, as Jove, and future mapmakers took it as Jupiter because the Latin word for Jupiter has “Jov” in it. Got it?

Today, Jupiter is otherworldly thanks to the zillion dollar waterfront homes that house the likes of Tiger Woods and Michael Jordan.
